Psychologist Training Director

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago

This is a Full-time position in Phoenix, AZ posted August 13, 2021.

Primary responsibility is directing the training program in clinical child and adolescent and pediatric psychology for psychology trainees at the practicum, internship, and fellowship level, and contributing to training programs in related fields in the Pritzker Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine.

Directing the internship training program requires maintaining relations with and meeting all requirements for accreditation by the relevant governing and accrediting bodies.

Secondary responsibilities include directing and conducting a research program and taking a leadership role in the development and implementation of departmental research and program development activities, actively participating in Department teaching activities including course development, and providing direct clinical services to children and adolescents.

Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of pediatric and adolescent patients as regards their growth and development process.

The position actively supports the Hospital’s and the Department’s Continuous Quality Improvement and customer service goals through modeling of appropriate behavior and by providing a work environment conducive to attaining these goals.

Responsibilities Performs all administrative duties essential to maintaining the APA approved internship in clinical child/pediatric psychology including, but not limited to recruitment of interns, evaluation of intern performance, communication with academic training directors, yearly self-study reports to the American Psychological Association, preparation of all site visit materials for the APA, and responsibility for orientation and monitoring of interns on all services.

2 Organizes all activities necessary for the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of psychology interns and post-doctoral fellows, as well as graduate students for the clinical psychology program, Feinberg School of Medicine.

3 Planning and implementation of a yearly seminar schedule for departmental trainees including psychology interns, psychiatric residents, and social work externs.

4 Planning and implementation of a supervision schedule for all psychology interns, psychology practicum students, and psychology post-doctoral fellows.

5 Provision of direct supervision for all psychology interns.

6 Coordination of the psychology therapy practicum.

7 Consults with psychology staff on issues of supervision and is responsible for training and supervision of new psychology staff.

Conducts an independent research program; develops research programs as a principal investigator in relevant areas of psychological research 9.

Provides leadership in departmental research activities: provides departmental leadership on research activities by conducting independent research and serving as a consultant and mentor on research-related activities to other staff members.

Works with Vice Chair for Research, Department Head, and Chief Psychologist on development of departmental research program 10.

Provides direct clinical care: conducts screenings and diagnostic evaluations of children and adolescents treated at Lurie Children’s.

Assigns appropriate DSM and ICD diagnoses.

Provides psychological treatment to children and adolescents as indicated.

Maintains appropriate clinical documentation in the electronic medical record.

Writes letters, notes, and formal clinical reports on client contacts.

Communicates progress over the telephone and via the electronic medical record, as appropriate.

Collaborates and consults with medical providers, schools, social service agencies as well as city, county, and state funding and placement agencies through oral and written presentation of clinical findings and recommendations.

Completes all case management duties of assigned cases including discharge planning, completion of the diagnostic evaluation and referrals to appropriate support services as needed.

Participates in rounds, patient care conferences, diagnostic and treatment staffing team meetings, multidisciplinary case conferences, and discipline-specific team meetings.

Provides training through direct supervision and teaching of didactic coursed in the subspecialties of clinical child and pediatric psychology to Lurie Children’s, McGaw Medical Center, and Feinberg School of Medicine students, interns, and fellows in various disciplines.

Qualifications 1.

A doctoral degree in clinical psychology or a related field with APA-approved internship required.

2.

If degree is in a related area (e.g., human development) must have completed APA approved internship.

3.

Completion of a one-year fellowship in clinical child and adolescent psychology or pediatric psychology.

4.

Required licensure and/or certification: licensed or license-eligible in Illinois.

If employee is license-eligible, state license, employee must obtain license and be granted clinical privileges before start date.

5.

Minimum experience required to perform job: at least five years experience providing empirically supported therapy to children and adolescents with mood and anxiety disorders, and or externalizing disorders and/or providing family therapy to children and adolescents.

Excellent communication, critical-thinking, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to work as a part of multiple teams.

8.

Special physical requirements – sits and stands throughout the day.

Physical management of patients in crisis situation may be necessary.

9.

Basic Life Support Certification required.
