This position provides direct oversight, support and expertise to the Infection Preventionist, Occupational Health Nurse and leadership regarding infection prevention activities, infection surveillance and occupational health practices.

Duties: Develops and oversees the implementation and operations of centralized, system-wide infection surveillance and occupational health programs.

Provides support and content expertise in the various infection prevention, surveillance and occupational health programs for the various divisions within FDIHB.

Work collaboratively with the Infection Preventionist, Occupational Health Nurse, and the Chief of Quality Services Officer to develop and implement quality initiatives that enhance patient care, improve patient and staff safety and maintain compliance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other regulatory entities.

Participates in maintaining policies and procedures, which provide a program of preventive medicine for regional personnel (hospital and clinic based) to include establishment of policies and procedures relating to infection prevention, exposure to infectious disease and prevention of cross-contamination.

Provides educational opportunities for staff related to infection prevention, occupational health and quality processes.

Attends Navajo Area Infection Control meetings as FDIHB’s Representative.

Works collaboratively with the leadership and medical staff on optimizing various performance metrics and publicly reported measures.

Serves as a liaison with local, regional and statewide infection control consultants and directors.

Review and prepare plans to ready FDIHB relative to emerging threats for highly infectious pathogens.

Serves as a facilitator to spread best practices in quality, occupational health and infection prevention practices across the system.

Participates in the Quality Services Performance Improvement program by gathering and analyzing data as described by the Performance Improvement plan.

Provides annual plans, quarterly reports, and year-end evaluations.

Notifies the Chief of Quality Services Officer of infractions against standard operating policies and procedures that expose guests and employees the risk of infection or complications resulting from infection.

Functions as the liaison with other health care facilities as well as Federal, State, local and private sector health agencies, such as BIA, IHS, NAIHS, OSHA, CDC, NIOSH, FDA, EPD, CPSC, FEOH, JCAHO, CMS, NFPA, NSC, AAQAP, APIC, and AHA.

Maintains and keeps track of departmental budget; compiles budget reports as needed.

Performs other related duties assigned.

Qualifications: EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of direct work experience.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology or related field.MANDATORY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent customer service skills.

Must obtain Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within one year of employment.Knowledge of adult learning principles including principles of evaluation preferred.

Knowledge of regulatory, accrediting and advisory body requirements including, but not limited to state and federal regulations, CMS standards, CDC recommendations, and Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proven leadership/management skills.

Strong problem solving, critical thinking skills and adaptability to manage crisis.

Ability to interface with employees across all levels of the organization and externally with local community and tribal partners.

Ability to be pro-active and self-motivated.

Ability in exercising tact, patience, and discretion in dealing with people of varying backgrounds and temperament.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to perform calmly, purposefully and appropriately in emergency and stressful situations.

Excellent proficiency in computer software and applications associated with a business environment including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher and Word).

A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
