Quality Coding Auditor

This is a Full-time position in Phoenix, AZ posted April 2, 2021.

HOPCo is the managing partner of Arizona-based entities, CORE Institute, Northern Arizona Orthopaedics, CORE Institute Specialty Hospital, Michigan-based CORE Institute, and Florida-based Southeast Orthopedic Specialists.
Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company (HOPCo) is a vertically integrated musculoskeletal outcomes management company.  HOPCo manages physician practices, hospital service lines, population health and value-based care programs, and musculoskeletal delivery networks.
As HOPCo continues to grow, we are looking for a Quality Coding Specialist in our Corporate Headquarters. Please see below for the functions and requirements for this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts internal reviews for coding accuracy.
  • Identify training needs and provide the necessary training.
  • Assists in the development, completion, and maintenance of a comprehensive, clinical coding audit program.
  • Conducts regular complex audits of clinically coded data to critically examine clinical information and prepare reports on findings for management.
  • Effectively communicates with clinicians, managers, and administration to facilitate cooperation in reaching the required standards.
  • Report inaccurate or incomplete data to appropriate parties for correction or amendment.
  • Assists in the review and updating of policies and procedures related to coding and documentation guidelines.
  • Identifies and makes recommendations for participation in external programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.

EDUCATION

  • Accredited Clinical Coder Certification
  • Audit certification preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum five years’ experience of coding within medical practice
  • Evidence of audit experience with written reports

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of coding guidelines, concepts, and principles.
  • Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and policy compliance issues related to medical coding and documentation.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Knowledge of HOPCo policies and procedures.

SKILLS

  • Skill in effectively communicating complex material to target audience.
  • Skill in medical record auditing and abstraction of necessary information.
  • Skill in analysis of data, policies, and requirements.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with a diverse audience.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to maintain a professional work environment.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • General office environment.
  • Some travel within community and potentially to other Markets.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.
  • Some bending and stretching required.
  • Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard.
