The Consumer Lending team partners with other businesses across Wells Fargo to create and deliver transformational experiences that help customers gain access to credit. The vision for the Consumer Lending business is to leverage technology and data to make it simple for customers to easily access credit when and where they need it. Consumer Lending serves customers across the country through our distribution network of more than 5,300 retail banking branches and Home Lending offices, as well as online and digital channels.

The Product Strategy and Delivery Team is currently hiring talented Product Owners to lead and own products within Home Lending’s Digital Servicing line of business. 
The Product Owner is responsible for full lifecycle product management of one or more technology products, collaborating with product management leaders, delivery teams, and other cross-functional partners to release high value products into the market. The Product Owner articulates product vision, definition, goals, and direction for teams to design, develop, and deliver technology products to meet associated objectives and key results. The Product Owner serves as the communications hub and acts as a strategic guide for all people involved in product generation and delivery.

In particular, the role of the Product Owner is to:

  • Identify and build relationships with key partners and stakeholders, communicating product vision, priorities, and release plans while soliciting and incorporating feedback. Act as a conduit between the stakeholders and the delivery team during planning, execution, and ongoing operations to optimize capabilities, maximize customer value, and align expectations.
  • Review competitive market data, industry trends, and customer insights to learn about and anticipate customers’ wants, needs, and desires. Use data to inform prioritization.
  • Actively own and continuously maintain a prioritized product backlog aligned to product vision and goals, maximizing customer and business value. Lead backlog refinement and seed backlog through discovery activities and stakeholder and delivery team collaboration.
  • Ensure that product goals, feature-level KPIs, and other performance indicators exist, are measured, and are in alignment with OKRs. Monitor and report successes and opportunities with transparency while managing risk and ensuring regulatory and policy compliance.
  • In collaboration with the Scrum team, define Sprint goals that align to product vision, OKRs, and team KPIs. Define acceptance criteria and verify they are met. Plan and facilitate backlog refinement and Sprint and product reviews, and participate in other Scrum events (sprint planning, daily scrum, and retrospectives).
  • Empower teams to work autonomously in building optimum solutions, while being available throughout the sprint to ensure intent of stories is understood, acceptance criteria are appropriate, and interim questions are addressed.
  • Continuously seek ways to make processes more efficient and identify improvement opportunities while ensuring all regulatory and compliance needs are met. Improve predictability of effort and cost estimates.
  • Evangelize and set an example for product teams in discovery best practices, Design Thinking, customer centricity, and agile software development/delivery.

This role requires a decisive leader with strong relationship management and product management skills, an ability to influence, and a talent for leading cross-functional teams to higher levels of performance in a collaborative agile development and delivery environment.

Location preference is West Des Moines, IA; San Antonio, TX; Fort Mill, SC; Charlotte, NC; Chandler/Phoenix, AZ; or Minneapolis, MN. Other locations within the Wells Fargo footprint may be considered.

Salary range is determined by the location of the job.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of product management experience
  • 6+ years of experience in one or more of the following: Product management, product development, strategic planning, process management, change delivery or agile product owner

Other Desired Qualifications

  • 3+ years of agile Product Owner experience in Scrum and scaled agile environments
  • Experience delivering software products using agile principles, including planning and estimating, and with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to meet deadlines, achieve goals, manage risk, solve problems, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
  • Proven success in leading, coaching, and motivating cross-functional empowered teams
  • Proven track record of bringing successful products to market on time, incorporating a variety of development and delivery strategies (third party, insourcing, outsourcing)
  • Expertise in navigating matrixed organizations and teams with proven success in leveraging the right people and resources at the right time for consistent and dependable delivery of optimal value to the customer and the business
  • Experience with market research, competitive analysis, and technology trend analysis
  • Ability to assess the impact of new product initiatives on the delivery team environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of product management in the regulated financial services industry
  • Demonstrated understanding and empathy for customer needs and pain points, amplifying the voice of the customer throughout product development and delivery
  • Facilitation and collaboration skills, including ability to facilitate decision-making and broker agreements among diverse, differing, and/or conflicting perspectives/priorities
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, in particular with establishing and advocating both customer and delivery team points of view
  • Experience communicating and presenting complex information to multiple levels of the organization, translating data into understandable, actionable information and recommendations
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills with a bias to action
  • Ability to make timely and independent judgment decisions while working in a fast-paced and results-driven environment, making adjustments and course corrections in close partnership with delivery teams
  • Ability to evaluate risks and the impact of decisions on the product line, generating creative alternatives and understanding trade-offs
  • Excellent analytical skills and orientation in making data-driven technical decisions
  • Experience with software development lifecycle management and tooling (Jira Align knowledge a plus)

Job Expectations

  • This position requires compliance with all mortgage regulatory requirements and Wells Fargo’s compliance policies related to these requirements including acceptable background check investigation results. Successful candidates must also meet ongoing regulatory requirements including additional screening and required reporting of certain incidents.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
