Licensed Practical Nurse

Northern Arizona Healthcare

This is a Contract position in Cottonwood, AZ posted October 22, 2021.

The Licensed Practical Nurse, under the general supervision of the provider/RN, works with all members of the departmental health care team to provide assistance to providers, co-workers, patients and their families, ensuring smooth work and patient flow within the department.

* Documents observations, interventions, and patient responses.

* Provides psychological and social support for patient/families.

* Triages incoming telephone calls and responds to phone messages.

* Communicates laboratory and diagnostic data to physician and patient under direction of provider.

Patient Care
* Utilizes the nursing process.

* Contributes data to patient assessment and care delivery.

* Manages medications and IV’s (IV certified only).

* Utilizes pain scale in determining pain level.

* Assists in office procedures; set up, prep for examinations and treatments.

* Assists physician with dressing changes, suture removals and other minor procedures.

* Participates in the development of patient care strategies.

* Responsible for patient flow and processing of patients in outpatient clinic environment.

* Process provider orders.

* Assists with scheduling of surgeries, procedures, testing and other appointments for patients.

* Performs follow-up assessments of patients post procedure.

* Provides patient education regarding procedures, protocols, testing and care needs.

* Demonstrates knowledge of pharmaceuticals (their expected beneficial effects and potential side effects).

* Reports adverse medication reactions to provider.

* Demonstrates the ability to perform medical interventions and sterile procedures.

* Prioritizes and problem solves to meet patient demands.

* Reviews clinical schedule; ensures emergency referrals are scheduled accordingly.


  • High School diploma or GED- Required
  • Graduate from an accredited LPN Program- Required

Certification & Licensures

  • Current unrestricted Arizona LPN license- Required
  • BLS (American Heart Association)- Required
  • IV certification- Preferred
  • Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.


  • Minimum 1 year of back office experience in a physician office/clinic- Preferred
  • Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
