Specialty Materials Development Engineer


This is a Contract position in Pinal County, AZ posted September 14, 2020.

The Boeing Mesa Materials and Processes team is seeking a Specialty Materials Development Engineer (Level 2) to join the team in Mesa, Arizona.

The successful candidate is energetic and capable to work in a research and development (R&D) shop/lab environment that supports product development and verification.

This position will be involved is developing next generation materials technologies for advanced aircrafts.

The work done in this role is in a classified work area Technologies require a BS degree in Engineering or science.

Position Responsibilities: Assists with definition of requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of Boeing products Drafts engineering specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes Assists in evaluation of emerging technologies for potential application to business needs Assists with development and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements Performs routine tests and audits to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements Conducts routine analysis to determine performance or reasons for failures of tools, materials, parts or processes Assists in implementing corrective and preventive actions Develops computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements.

Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.

An interim and/or final U.S.

Secret clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry 1 years of experience in materials specifications, materials testing, and/or materials selection Experience working with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) 1 years of experience with the application of coatings, adhesives, or sealants by spray, roll, transferring or extrusion methods Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Active U.S.

Secret clearance A bachelor’s degree or higher in materials science, materials engineering, chemistry, or chemical engineering Experience working in a shop environment Experience assisting technicians in developing various materials Experience with design experiments Experience with writing formal reports of findings Experience in specific fields of study of composites, coatings, lithography, direct manufacturing, etc.

Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g.

Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g.


In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
