Mechanical Designer and Drafter

The Mechanical Products Team (MPT) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment using state-of the-art tools, processes and technology. Incorporating Raytheon Six Sigma standards MPT’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test and documentation.
The Airframes and Advanced Effectors department is seeking a technical support engineer to enhance our Modeling, Design and Drafting capability.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Perform a wide variety of design tasks in support of the engineering and manufacturing organizations.
  • Solve routine problems of limited scope and complexity following established policies and procedures with minimal direction or supervision.
  • Use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems to prepare mechanical design layouts, detail and assembly drawings and models (including but not limited to packaging, mechanisms, and castings) and related documentation in conformance to appropriate program and/or customer specifications.
  • Responsible for control and release of drawings/models using data management tools such as Windchill and Common PDM.

This position can be filled as Technical Support Engineer I or Technical Support Engineer II based on the candidate’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibilities required for the position

Qualifications You Must Have:
Education: Associates degree in Computer Aided Design, Engineering Technology, Information Technology, or applicable years of experience in lieu of degree.

  • Mechanical drafting & modeling/design experience. This may include areas such as electrical/mechanical packaging, harnessing, structures, cabling, surfacing and mechanisms
  • Experience with CREO Parametric (Pro/Engineer) solid modeling CAD tool and working knowledge of Common PDM data management tool
  • Candidate will be able to identify and correct design, model, and drawing errors/omissions/deficiencies and recommend corrective actions or improvements
  • Candidate will have an understanding of basic principles, theories and concepts for creation, preparation, and revision control of engineering design documentation
  • Technical knowledge sufficient to perform tasks such as preparation of detailed part drawings, large assemblies, castings, composites, interface drawings, various layouts for design concepts, and other tasks
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 1994 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Candidate will have knowledge of industry practices and standards used in drafting, modeling and design development/revision
  • Ability to interpret and apply documentation specifications such as MIL-STD-31000, Y14.5M, ASME Y14.24 and ASME Y14.100
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • BS in Computer Aided Design, Engineering Technology, Information Technology, or applicable years of experience in lieu of degree,
  • 2+ years of mechanical drafting & modeling/design experience. This may include areas such as electrical/mechanical packaging, harnessing, structures, cabling, surfacing and mechanisms Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and networking skills, ability to work well with others including customers and suppliers
  • Motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment with timely problem resolution utilizing a professional, positive, proactive attitude, strong customer focus, and a desire to help others
  • Ability to recognize roadblocks/issues early and elevate/suggest appropriate corrective action
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Raytheon Drafting Standards, Mechanical Engineering Process for documentation preparation
    • Knowledge of RMS processes and procedures
    • Machine shop and hand tools
    • Additive manufacturing capabilities
